Bhubaneswar: Ajit Mangaraj, the Congress candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Pipili assembly constituency has tested positive for Covid-19.

Infirming the development, Mangaraj on his official Facebook page wrote, “I have been undergoing treatment after got diagnosed for Covid-19.”

The Congress candidate further appealed not to spread any rumours and work united so that the party performs well in the upcoming by-polls.

It is pertinent to mention here that already major political parties including BJP, BJD and the Congress have intensified campaigning for the crucial Pipili by-poll scheduled to be held on April 17.

The by-poll has been necessitated following the demise of BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy. He had won the seat by a margin of over 15,000 votes in 2019.

BJD has chosen Pradeep Maharathy’s son Rudra Pratap as its official candidate.

Earlier on Friday, BJD announced that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will campaign for the party candidate Rudra Pratap Maharathy in virtual mode on April 12.

The BJP has pitted Ashrit Pattanaik as the party candidate for the seat which he had lost last time to Maharathy.
