Koraput: Workers under the banner of 'Odisha Pipe Water Workers' Union' on Monday staged protest over various demands, including regularisation of job, in the district.

The workers alleged that last year on November 22, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched the Basudha scheme to provide safe drinking water to 147 villages of the State, but the plight of the workers who has been working for the successful implementation of the scheme is being blatantly ignored by the government.

Their demands include regularisation of temporary and work-charge employees and minimum wage for contract employees.

The union has also threatened that water supply to panchayats and urban areas will be stopped from March 5 if their demands are not met before the implementation of code of conduct for the upcoming election.
