Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today informed that nearly 5 ,000 plants for extracting biogas from agricultural residue, cattle dung and municipal solid waste will be set up by 2023 across the country.

The Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) will be promoted as an alternative and in a bid to develop interest among the stakeholders in the SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative launched by the central government on October 1, 2018.

A roadshow was organised in Bhubaneswar by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) today. Speaking during the event, Pradhan said that the SATAT initiative aims to produce Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) from the agricultural residue. The policy will open rooms for employment and will build a prosperous nation.

"Waste products contribute a lot towards pollution. By recycling and processing the waste products with the help of advanced technology Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) can be produced. The main aim behind the roadshow here is to inspire the youths of Odisha to participate in this project," said Pradhan.

The Union Minister further said 500 plants will be set up in Odisha and all financial assistance will be provided to them from the central government. The produce of the individuals will be purchased by Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and GAIL.

"This initiative will create employment opportunities, promote economic growth and will enhance all-round development of the state", he added.
