Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reiterated his earlier statement that people of Odisha will choose his successor.

Replying to a question posed by Editorial Director of The New Indian Express (TNIE), Prabhu Chawla, at the concluding day of Odisha Literary Festival on Sunday, Patnaik said, “I believe that the people of our state will choose the successor at the right time.”

Asked whether he is against the culture of choosing his own successor, the Chief Minister said, “No I don’t believe in that.”

During the interaction, the BJD president spoke about administrative, political issues and his personal life. He gave credit to the able administrators of his government and leaders of his party for coming to power for the fifth consecutive term.

Speaking about extending support to the Centre over the decision of scrapping of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the CM said that revoking of Article 370 would bring more development in J&K.

He further said that alleviation of poverty from the State would be the next target of his government.

It is pertinent to mention that the Odisha CM had earlier made it clear that none from his family would succeed him and the people of Odisha would choose his successor.
