Bhubaneswar: In view of the serious devastation caused by cyclone Fani, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the completion of Patkura Assembly polls by 60 days, informed Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha today.

The date of poll will be suitably decided after assessing local situation, the CEO added.

The Patkura Assembly poll was countermanded following the death of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate for the seat, Bed Prakash Agarwalla. As per the ECI's earlier schedule, the Assembly segment under Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency was supposed to go to polls on April 24. However, following the demise of Agarwalla, the ECI had notified that Patkura would go to polls on May 19.
