Nayagarh: A patient suffering from respiratory related ailments died due to the alleged medical negligence of doctors at Basant Manjari Health Centre in Chandapur under Ranpur block of Nayagarh district on Wednesday.

As per reports, Bhimasen Swain, a resident of Shandhapur village in Khallikote area of Ganjam district was rushed to the health centre after he complained of unease in breathing yesterday.

Relatives of Swain alleged that the doctors present at the outdoor department administered him an injection and asked the nurse to attach an oxygen cylinder without even examining him and left in a hurry.

“The doctors did not check him at all. They only administered him an injection and attached an oxygen cylinder and left saying that another doctor will examine the patient. We waited till 2 PM for the doctor, but no one turned up to check my husband and ultimately he died,” alleged Swain’s wife Ujjwali.

Subsequently, when Swain’s family asked the health centre authorities for a ‘Mahaprayan’ vehicle to take the dead body home, they allegedly refused, following which the family hired an auto-rickshaw and took Swain’s dead body home.

Meanwhile, Nayagarh CDMO Sweta Mahapatra said that an investigation will be carried out in connection with the incident.
