Malkangiri: A critical patient had to be carried on a cot to the hospital as ambulance could not reach his village because of inaccessible road conditions. The incident was reported from Gajiaguda village under Khairaput block of Malkangiri where Laxman Pangi was carried on a cot by his family for nearly 3 kms.

Sources said Laxman was suffering from diarrhoea and needed urgent medical attention after his condition deteriorated today.

Due to non-motorable road, neither ambulance nor any other vehicle could reach the village. With no other option, the family rushed Laxman to Maithili hospital in a cot.

Though the road construction work has been undertaken in the village, the project is incomplete due to callous attitude of the contractor and district administration.

Not only Laxman, several others in the village are also afflicted by diarrhoea following incessant rain in the district.

Local residents allege that the district administration is also not paying any attention for the development of infrastructure in the region.

As a water channel also flows near the village, people are facing numerous problems in communication.

Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda also expressed concern over poor infrastructure in several villages in Odisha. In a tweet, the former parlimentarian wrote, "It is unfortunate that people are still deprived of basic infrastructure like roads. I had always given importance to development of infrastructure & Kendrapara was ranked no-1 for improved development in India Today survey in 2017."
