Koraput: Due to acute shortage of trained manpower, the sole Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) at Koraput District is unable to meet the requirements of people of tribal dominated districts of Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
Locals alleged that earlier two employees from Regional Passport Office at Bhubaneswar were posted at the passport office when it was initially inaugurated in May 2017.
But after the staff returned to Bhubaneswar, the passport seva kendra is now being managed by inexperienced personnel of the postal department. As a result, there is a delay in processing of applications and issue of passports, local residents alleged.
Sources said as many as 500 people from the four districts apply for passports at the Passport Seva Kendra in Koraput every month.
"When the passport office was opened here, people had expected better services at their doorsteps in Koraput. The concerned administration should engage skilled staff at the earliest so that the services are provided to people on time," said a Koraput businessman, M Sudhir.
"The services that we used to get earlier have degraded due to unskilled staff. As this is the only passport office in southern Odisha, better facilities should be provided," alleged an educationist of Koraput.
N.N Sharma, Head Postmaster of Koraput general post office informed, "The senior superintendent has assured to recruit experienced staff soon. We have also proposed to install a server in the office so that passports can be printed and issued to people without any delay."
