Puri: Puri breathed a sigh of relief after a wait of 12 days post Cyclone Fani which battered the pilgrim town on May 3, as electricity supply was restored in a major grid of the city late on Tuesday night.

Executive Engineer of the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU), Puri division, Siba Prasad Swain informed that power has been supplied to the Balighat Grid late last night while the Sriram Nagar sub-station was electrified in the wee hours today.

Subsequently Kacheri, Atharanala, Charinala and Baliapanda areas of Puri will be given power supply in the day. The department has also targeted to restore power supply in Badadanda by today, Swain added. However, the official has asked individual consumers to wait for some more time to get power connectivity.

Only after a thorough examination of the transmission wires, power connection will be restored for individual consumers, Swain stated.

It is pertinent to mention that the pilgrim city was devastated after Cyclone Fani made a landfall on May 3. Thousands of trees and electric poles were uprooted by strong winds leading to snapping of power supply.
