Bhubaneswar: There seems to be no let-up to the resentment across the State over the kidnapping and brutal murder of 5-year-old Nayagarh girl Pari with the Opposition leaving no stones unturned to target the State government for the glaring loopholes in the probe into the case.

Protesting the lackadaisical investigation and continuation of Arun Sahoo in his post even after the Minister’s alleged links with the suspects surfaced, activists from both Congress and BJP staged demonstrations in different parts of the State, including at Bhubaneswar, on Friday.

Both the parties have turned heat on the Odisha government over the matter. They have demanded the immediate resignation of Minister Arun Sahoo for his alleged complicity in the brutal crime.

A scuffle broke out between Youth Congress activists and the police when the activists were stopped during their march towards the Odisha Assembly on Friday morning. The police stopped them near the Lower PMG Square.

Later scores of Youth Congress activists including president Smrutiranjan Lenka was taken into preventive custody by the police. The party leaders have demanded the expulsion of Minister Arun Sahoo and threatened to continue with their agitation till justice was done to Pari.

The BJP too has intensified its stir demanding the scalp of Minister Arun Sahoo over the matter which has triggered massive public outrage in Odisha.

Scores of BJP activists took out a rally from the party office to the Odisha Assembly. However, a fight broke out with the police when the latter tried to stop the rally near Lower PMG.

The security personnel had a tough time in maintaining law and order following the demonstrations by BJP and Congress activists in different parts of the smart city today.
