Bhubaneswar: Better late than never. Finally Panda Infra Projects has been barred by the Works department today from the construction project of Jatni flyover following frequent complaints of poor quality of work.

As per reports, soon after the Bomikhal tragedy, Vigilance officials started a probe into the alleged sub-standard work in the execution of the ongoing Jatni over-bridge project.

Initially, the Jatni Traders’ Association levelled allegations of low quality work carried out by the agency in construction of the flyover.

As a proof, the association had also submitted a CCTV footage to the Vigilance sleuths that had visuals of the construction work.

Prior to that, a 10-member team of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela led by Mahavir Panda, the Head of the Department (HOD) of Civil Engineering of the institute had conducted a spot visit and examined the load capacity of the under-construction bridge along with checking the quality of the slabs.

Works Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan stated, “There were allegations of sub-standard work gainst the firm. The Jatni flyover was supposed to be completed by 2015, but only 50% of the work has been completed so far. Re-tendering of the project will be done within a month.”

It may be noted that the Panda Infra Projects was also debarred from carrying out further construction of the Bomikhal flyover in May earlier this year.

However, official sources claimed nothing has been decided in case of the flyover projects underway in Sambalpur by the same firm. Discussion is still on, sources added.
