Bhubaneswar/Sambalpur: Tension prevailed at the Utkal University and Sambalpur University on Monday following student protest on the campuses.

As per reports, while a group of students of the Utkal University's Pharmacy department was staging an agitation in front of the varsity main gate, some non-students and former students allegedly misbehaved with protestors. This sparked palpable tension between both the groups and they subsequently clashed in presence of police.

The two groups had face-off with cops as well when the officials intervened into the matter to pacify the situation.

Meanwhile, police have deployed one platoon of force in the Utkal University campus to prevent any untoward incident. Two non-students were also detained by the police.

Comments from the university authorities could not be received despite repeated attempts.

In another instance, tension erupted in the Sambalpur University campus when two groups fought a pitched battle following face-off between a professor of the Political Science department and an M.Phil student.

Two persons from both the groups were reportedly injured in the clash and have been admitted to the Burla hospital.

The authorities of Sambalpur University are yet to comment on the incident.
