Cuttack: A joint squad comprising officials of the health wing of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the district administration on Friday launched a massive crackdown on sale of stale & junk food in Bali Yatra.

As per official sources, around 3 quintals of stale and food items with added colours that are unhealthy for consumption were destroyed following raids on several kioks today.

A senior official informed that two special teams have been formed to ensure that no stale food is served inside the historic fair which received status of a State-level festival this year. The teams carry out inspection at various stalls from 6 AM to 11 AM and from 3 PM to 10 PM on a daily basis.

Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials informed that small traders are being fined Rs 500 for stale food items. However, the concerned stall owner will be slapped a fine which can go up to Rs 1 lakh if he is found violating the norms or is caught selling food unfit for human consumption for the second time.

The licence of the concerned stall owner will be cancelled for repeated offence, said a senior official requesting anonymity.
