Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration has detected more than 10 teachers who had allegedly got appointment by submitting fake certificates during recruitment in Sorada block.

As per sources, the matter came to fore after Sorada Block Education Officer (BEO) recently found out that one Swarnalata Sahu, a teacher of Govt Primary School in Harijan Sahi of Badagadahad submitted fake certificates to get posting.

Later on December 2, Swarnalata reportedly submitted her resignation citing family problem and went absconding.

After careful examination, the authorities discovered that more than 10 candidates of the total 754 who were selected for teacher posts in the block have availed jobs by furnishing duplicate documents.

Meanwhile, the BEO has assured to take action against the teachers accused of submitting fake certificates.

"We have started verification of the teachers' documents and stringent action would be taken against the accused, if any," informed the BEO.

Directorate of Elementary Education had recently sought report from education officers of as many as 13 districts regarding the appointments of such teachers accused of submitting fake documents.

In the last week of November, the State Government had stated that 217 teachers with fake education certificates have been identified in the State as per a survey.

The DEOs have been asked to check the authenticity of certificates and documents of school teachers and submit a report to the government by December 16.
