Cuttack: After seizure of adulterated spices, ghee, edible oil, turmeric powder and other non-food items from Cuttack, a joint team of Commissionerate Police and food inspecting officials of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) recovered more than one quintal of synthetic paneer from a bus during a raid on Wednesday.

The spurious paneer was reportedly seized by the officials of Chauliaganj Police Station and CMC while it was being transported from Kolkata to the millennium city in the private bus this morning, said reports.

"The artificial paneer had been prepared using flour, urea, spurious milk, glycerine, chemical and other items which are harmful for health. If this is consumed for a long run, a person may suffer from chronic dysentery, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), liver disorders, kidney ailments etc," said an official of the CMC.

Earlier on December 22, police had busted a fake cement manufacturing unit in Jagatpur area in Cuttack and detained a person in connection with the incident.

Huge quantity of adulterated cement and machines used for the production, several packaging materials with labels of different reputed brands on them were also seized during the raid.

Similarly, a ghee adulteration unit operating in a eight-room house was also busted by the Commissionerate Police on December 22 at Moonlight lane in Pithapur area under Badambadi police limits in Cuttack town.

Police found a truck load of adulterated ghee, raw materials like ‘dalda’, ‘banaspati’ and palmolein oil, chemical colours, essence, manufacturing and packaging machines, packing materials and logos of Durga and Sri Ganesh Ghee brands from the unit. The seized items are estimated to be more than Rs 50 lakh.

Similarly in November, police had raided a spurious ghee and edible oil manufacturing unit at Gabagasta area in the outskirts of Cuttack and seized huge quantity of adulterated ghee.
