Bhubaneswar: Demanding appointment of a permanent dean, the students of College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry under the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) locked up the main gate of the college and staged demonstration inside the campus today.

The students alleged that despite repeated complaints and threats, the concerned authorities have not taken any measures forcing them to resort to the stir.

“It has been six months that the college is functioning with a temporary dean. Though, we have a dean-in charge, he is from the agriculture college. Our college has sufficient number of professors and doctors, who are highly qualified in our stream so why do we have a dean who is from another department,” said an agitating student Sonusmita Das.

The students also threatened to continue the strike for an indefinite period if their demands are not fulfilled. The Vice-chancellor of OUAT Surendra Nath Pasupalak later held discussions with the agitating students.

Pasupalak accepted that the students intimated the concerned authorities about their demands. “A letter regarding the appointment of a permanent dean for the college has been sent to the Chancellor of Universities and Governor Ganeshi Lal. Once the chancellor gives direction we will proceed with the appointment.”
