Sambalpur: A team of experts from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) today started the treatment of an ailing  tusker at Padiabahal forest range in Sambalpur today.

According to sources, the team led by Dr Indramani Nathm, Professor of Surgery department from OUAT conducted the treatment after tranquilising the tusker.

As per reports, a few days back, the tusker had sustained injuries on his leg and was being monitored by the doctors. Though his condition was improving it is suspected that the tusker might have suffered injuries during a fight with other elephants in the forest.

After the condition of the tusker deteriorated yesterday, a team from OUAT was called in, informed Sambalpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sanjit Kumar.

“Treatment of the tusker was carried out by the team accompanied with local veterinary doctors and forest department officials. One of the legs of the elephant has swollen due to dislocation of bones, however, its condition is stable now” said Kumar.

“The condition of the tusker is being constantly monitored by the doctors” he added.
