Koraput: A day after OTV highlighted the plight of a minor girl struggling under acute poverty with her family in Koraput, the district administration today extended help to the 17-year-old Laxmi Nayak, who works as labourer to take care of three younger siblings.

As per reports, Borigumma Block Development Officer (BDO) and Tehsildar visited Laxmi’s residence at Khudiguda village last night immediately after the OTV report was telecast and handed her over a cheque of Rs 30,000 from Chief Minister's Relief Fund along with Rs 5,000 from Red Cross fund. Later, on collector's order, district social welfare officer and district child protection officer today went to the village to take stock of the situation.

The district administration officials have assured that all arrangements will be done so that Laxmi and her siblings can be taken to Koraput Child Welfare Committee for counselling and subsequently they will be enrolled into sevashram school.

After losing her father in a road mishap five years back and subsequently her mother settling with another man, Laxmi has been the sole bread earner of the family of five including her grandfather.
