Sambalpur: Taking cognizance of an OTV report on ragging by senior students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology inside the hostel, the vice chancellor of the varsity has debarred 10 students from taking examination for a period of one year. Moreover, 52 other students have been penalized in connection with the incident.

The action was taken at the disciplinary committee meeting convened by the varsity authorities after ragging reports surfaced.

A press release of the varsity stated that "Going through the viral video shown in OTV, the Vice Chancellor himself rushed to the Hostels with the Deans and Senior Professors along with concerned Wardens of Hostels. The wardens clearly identified ten students from the video and accused students confessed to their fault."

"During the investigation, it was observed that 52 other boarders volunteered to be accused with the above mentioned ten identified boarders. The disciplinary committee decided to penalise all of them with fine of Rs 2000 each with immediate effect," the release read.

OTV, in its report, showed videos wherein around hundred third and fourth year students of the varsity were seen ragging as many as 50 students of the second year on a stage built inside the varsity premises during a welcome ceremony. This apart, several seniors were also seen humiliating second year students by tearing off their shirts and trousers while some juniors were also thrashed in the dining hall after the welcome ceremony.
