Youth dies after attempting self immolation

Rourkela: A youth who attempted self immolation on premises of Udit Nagar police station here on Monday, died while undergoing treatment at Ispat General Hospital (IGH).

The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Nayak of Basanti Colony.

According to reports, the youth had gone to meet the inspector of Udit Nagar police station yesterday. However, he was allegedly not allowed to meet the police personnel. Protesting discrimination against him, the youth set himself on fire in the premises of the police station.

In critical condition he was rushed to IGH hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, sources said.

He succumbed to his injuries this morning as he had sustained nearly 80% burn injuries.

Notably, he was released from jail four days ago after spending around 15 days behind bars.

Meanwhile, the family member of the deceased alleged that Nayak attempted self immolation after police denied to accept his FIR.
