Bhubaneswar: A high society woman was arrested by Kharavela Nagar police on charges of stealing fish in Unit IV fish market here today.
The arrested woman, Sonali Monalisa, was charged under Sections Sec 341, 324, 294, 506 and 406 of the IPC and forwarded to a local court. .
Monalisa, who came in a luxury car, allegedly took fish from a lady fish seller in the market but did not pay her. When the fish seller asked for money, Monalisa allegedly slapped her.
Angry over the behaviour of Monalisa, local fish traders gheraoed the SUV of the lady and did not let it go. To escape the wrath of the fish vendors, Monalisa raised the galss windows and locked herself inside her vehicle. After getting the information about the tension, police reached the spot and rescued Monalisa and took her to the police station.
The lady fish seller, who complained about the stealing act of Monalisa, said, “The woman asked for fish. When I told her the price, she slapped me and said she would not take the fish as it was rotten. Besides, she said she was a journalist and Sarathi Baba’s wife.”
The fish traders alleged today’s incident was not a one-off affair. They said Monalisa was in the habit of taking fish without paying for it. “The woman would take fish and not pay for it. When a fish seller would ask the woman for money, she would retort ‘Who are you’ and ‘I do not know you’,” alleged Abdul Hasim Khan, another fish seller of the market alleged,
Echoing similar views, another fish trader in the market Bika Behera said, “Once she beat up me when I asked money for the fish she took from me and filed a false case in a police station that I misbehaved with her.”
