Bhadrak: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) died in the district headquarters hospital here on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Debadatta Barik of Pahana village under Dhusuri police station limits.

Talking to the media, Sunaram Singh, Jailor of Special Sub Jail, Bhadrak said Barik was remanded to the Special Sub Jail here as an UTP on February 23 on the charge of stealing valuables from the hundi inside the Akhandalamani Shiva temple.

“During his stay inside the jail, his behaviour was normal. He used to attend the morning prayers regularly and never had any complaint. But today he came to me in the morning and said he was feeling uneasy. I took him to the doctor inside the jail for a check-up. As per the advice of the doctor, we sent him to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors gave him medicines after check-up. But he died after some time,” he said.

The jailer further said he has informed the family members of the deceased. “I have also informed my higher authorities and sent two jail staff to the native place of the deceased,” he added.
