Rourkela: 'Prakruti', a unique programme has been launched by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to create awareness regarding bio-diversity conservation among high school students from the area.

The three-day programme, a joint initiative by the Corporate Social Responsibility and Horticulture Departments of RSP, was organised recently at Ispat Nehru Park, Indira Gandhi Park Zoo and Ispat Herbal Garden, RSP sources said on Thursday.

As part of the programme, students from periphery villages were presented with study materials provided by the Centre for Environment Education, Eastern Zone and an educational kit containing booklets namely, 'Paryavaran Mitra' (Friend of Environment) and 'Aabarjana ru Udyana' (Garden from Waste), a leaflet on common Herbal plants and their usage.

An interactive session was also conducted at IG Park by Dr Satyanarayan Mishra, Curator, IG Park on Biodiversity with special emphasis on Common Snakes of Odisha, Snake bite and First-Aid for snake bite.

The programme witnessed an enthusiastic participation from as many as 298 students and 18 teachers from 6 different schools of Dumerjore, Jabaghat, Hamirpur Bagdega, Bisra and Dumerta, sources added.
