Tension in Capital Hospital over patient’s death

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at the Capital Hospital here on Sunday morning following the death of a patient at the hospital’s ICU on Saturday evening.

Alleging absence of the doctor at the ICU to attend the patient Gunadhara Khatae, family members had an altercation with the hospital staff following the death of their kinj. They alleged that the death occurred as the patient did not get proper treatment in time.

Khatae’s elder son said, “My father, who was suffering from asthma and heart disease and admitted to the hospital, got critical at around 8 pm on Saturday. But the doctor, who was in-charge of the ICU at that time, was absent.”

Agreeing with the charges levelled by Khatae’s family members regarding treatment of the patient, the Capital Hospital director Biswa Bhusan Patnaik said, “There was negligence on the part of the hospital in the treatment of Khatae. A probe will be conducted and action will be taken against persons responsible for his death.”
