Bhubaneswar: The sunstroke death toll in Odisha went upto 63 even as monsoon covered the entire state by third week of June.

The collectors of different districts have so far confirmed deaths of 63 persons due to sunstroke in recent months, a communication from the special relief commissioner's (SRC) office said today.

"The collectors sent confirmation of 63 deaths after probing into the sunstroke causality reports received during past two months," an official said.

While highest number of sunstroke cases have been confirmed in Ganjam district at 16, Kendrapara follows at 8.

Dhenkanal reported six cases, Balangir and Bargarh five each, Jajpur four, Puri three and Cuttack, Keonjhar and Rayagada two each.

One sunstroke death case has been confirmed each in Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Khurda, Nuapada and Sonepur, they said.
