Bhubaneswar: Tourists coming from outside and general passengers can enjoy the sand art on different themes at Biju Patnaik International airport here from today onwards.

In a bid to attract national and international tourists, Odisha Tourism department exhibited sand art sculpture at the waiting lobby of the city airport.

The initiative was kicked off today with the inauguration of a sculpture created by the award winning artist.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who inaugurated the sand art exhibition in presence of Tourism minister Ashok Charandra Panda, praised the efforts of tourism department and the sand artist.

“Applaud Sand Art Exposition on Biju Babu at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar #BijuCentenary”, Naveen tweeted.

The sculpture shall be changed every fifteen days and cover different themes throughout the year by eminent sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik.

The Padmashri award winning sculptor expressed pleasure for getting an opportunity to showcase his art form at the airport.

“Now the tourist can see my sand sculpture inside the Airport. This is the first time in our country. I would like to thank Odisha Tourism, which gave me an opportunity to showcase this art of Odisha," said an elated Sudarsan.

“Today is the Birth centenary of Biju Patnaik, so we dedicate this sand sculpture to him,” he added.
