Cuttack: With the remand period of the Dhalasamant brothers ending tomorrow, the commissionerate police has decided to take the two criminal brothers on a fresh remand.

“Since we have got vital information during the interrogation of Sushant Dhalsamant and his brother Sushil, we need to take them on fresh remand to make our investigation conclusive and foolproof,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora told media persons here today.

Reliable sources said the police would produce the two brothers tomorrow in the court and appeal to the court to take them on a seven-day remand.

During the night-long interrogation of the two brothers on Saturday, police have got vital lead into the mysterious disappearance of Dipu Mallick, one of the henchmen and sharp shooter of the Dhalasamants’ gang, since 2013.

Basing on the information extracted from the two brothers on Dipu, police have planned to take the suspects involved in this case, on remand, the DCP informed.

Police have detained some persons suspecting their involvement with the Dhalasamant brothers. Besides, raids are on at several places to trace out their other associates, he added.

Meanwhile, from the documents, seized by the police from an apartment at Vishakhapatnam, police have come to know that the Dhalasamant brothers were having business with a Vizag-based company.

Besides, the two brothers were fixing tenders on behalf of the Ramki company, which the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has outsourced its cleaning work.

“We have identified the political leaders and CMC officials who are involved in the fixing. We will interrogate them very soon,” the DCP said.

He further said the police have sought detailed information from the Cuttack collector about the bali ghat (sand leasing) business of the Dhalasamant brothers in CDA, Athagarh, Trishulia and Banki areas.
