Cuttack: The commissionerate police on Wednesday forwarded two associates of the Tito gang, arrested yesterday, to the court. They have been identified as Chiku and Loka.
“As part of the special drive of the commissionerate police to apprehended hardened criminals, we had arrested Dil Nawaz Khan alias Chiku, son of Abdul Feroz Khan of Diwan Bazar in Cuttack city and one of the top members of the Tito gang, yesterday and seized two live country-made bombs, gun powder and bomb-making articles from his possession,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora told reporters after the arrest of the two criminals.
Giving details, Arora said Chiku is involved in a number of criminal activities in the undivided Cuttack district. He was wanted in a firing case in Lalbag area of the city on January 1 this year.
“Till date, Chiku has seven cases, including the fresh case registered by the police today,” he added.
He said police also arrested another member of the gang named Lokanath Sahu alias Loka, who was working under Athana Sahu, an anti-social of Chauliaganj area in Cuttack currently in jail.
“The Chauliaganj police got specific information yesterday that Loka is scheduled to arrive at a specified place to sell country-made guns. Acting on the information, police caught him red-handed and seized a 6 mm country-made pistol and five live bullets from his possession,” he informed.
The DCP said while several cases are pending against Loka in the Choudwar Police station and Mangalabag police stations in Cuttack, there are two cases of bullying against him in Mancheswar and Sahid Nagar police stations in Bhubaneswar.
On the plea of the police to put handcuffs to the Dhalasamant brothers while bringing them on fresh remand, which the SDJM court had rejected, Arora said the police will appeal against the SDJM court decision in the High Court.
Replying to a question how the commissionerate police has been able to recover such a huge cache of arms within a short time, the DCP thanked the public for their cooperation in providing vital information to the police. He also thanked the police officers for taking prompt action as per the information provided by the public.
The DCP said most of the arms seized by the police were brought from Munger district in Bihar. "Police will get the details on the sources of arms seized from the houses of Dhalasamant brothers in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Vizag," he said.
To a question on how much money the Dhalasamant brothers had invested in the formation and running of the Cuttack Yuvak Sangh, Arora said the police has got the details from the Chartered Accountant.
Police has started taking action against some persons involved in this case while efforts are on to nab others who have absconded. “We will arrest them very soon,” he asserted.
