D-brothers' aide Bhuan arrested, sent to jail

Cuttack: Notorious criminal Pramod Patra aka Bhuan, who is also another aide of arrested gangster brothers Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant, was arrested and sent to jail after being produced in the court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) here today.

Police said he is also the president of Shankarpur-Badambadi Puja Committee. "We have arrested him (Bhuan) on the basis of information received from the CDs which were seized from D-brothers’ house. Bhuan is involved in a number of murder and extortion cases,” police commissioner YB Khurania said.

The Commissionerate Police on Saturday had detained Bhuan at Chauliaganj police station over his alleged involvement in several cases including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and bomb hurling.

Meanwhile, a team of police headed by DCP Sanjeev Arora raided his house at Shankarpur area and seized Rs 76,20,000.

Two platoons of police force and 20 officers were engaged in the search operation at Bhuan’s house.

On Saturday, the police arrested dreaded criminal Juga Prakash Kanungo for alleged links with the criminal brothers following a raid on his residence at Sutahat in Cuttack.

Kanungo was arrested after a marathon grilling at a police station in the city. During the raid conducted at his residence, a gun, bullets in large numbers, arms, four vehicles, 14 bank passbooks, a diary and a CD were seized.

Source said the police undertook the raid after getting evidence regarding Kanungo’s involvement in tender fixing and sand mafia along with the D-brothers.

Several cases against Kanungo, including murder and extortion cases, are pending at police stations of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts.

Police Commissioner YB Khurania said, “He (Kanungo) has a history of involvement in anti-social activities. The search at his residence was made on the basis of those pending cases.”
