Paradip: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the Paradip Refinery will revolutionise the energy scenario in the entire eastern region.

“I congratulate the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) for setting up this state-of-the-art refinery in Paradip which will go a long way revolutionizing the entire region's energy scenario,” Patnaik said while addressing a massive gathering in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said the state government had always been proactively supporting the project and had extended various benefits including tax exemption and deferment of sales tax.

“The benefit will flow to the people only when ancillary and downstream industries come up within this region. For this, the commitment of IOCL to make adequate petro chemical feed stock available is critical,” he noted.

The chief minister further observed that a cracker complex by IOCL is essential for the development of the proposed petroleum chemicals investment region.

Drawing the attention of the Prime Minister, Patnaik said IOCL had announced four projects in 2014 of which work on one project had commenced. IOCL should also start work on the other three projects, he pointed out.

This complex has the potential to create three lakh jobs and substantial value addition for revenue generation and this region will be one of the brightest spots in our ‘Make in India’ dream,” the chief minister said requesting the Prime Minister to insist upon IOCL to fulfill its commitment in facilitating downstream and ancillary industries and creation of jobs for the youths of the state.
