Malkangiri: Owner of a computer training institute was arrested on charge of issuing forged certificates to students on payment of cash in Malkangiri district, police said on Sunday.

Based on an FIR lodged by an aggrieved student, police swung into action on July 8 and took Siba Prasad Padhi into custody and seized several documents, computers and scanners from his possession, Inspector-In-Charge of Malkangiri police station, Raj Kishore Dash said.

Padhi was issuing forged certificates of different courses including matriculation, Plus II, graduation, post-graduation and other vocational courses to the students on payment of cash ranged between Rs 12,500 and Rs 35,000.

However, the matter came to light after a certificate issued to the student was rejected during scrutiny for admission to higher studies.

As repeated request of the student for refund of the amount he had purportedly paid to Padhi did not elicit any response, he filed a police complaint and the accused was arrested, he said.
