One arrested for raping, killing minor girl

Kamakhyanagar: One person of Maluaguda village was arrested by Bhuban Police on Tuesday in connection with rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl of the village.

The arrested person, identified as Shiba Nanda Pradhan, confessed to her role in the crime. He was forwarded to a local court after medical examination.

Earlier in the day, the police along with forensic team and dog squad reached the minor girl’s house backyard where her body was buried by the family members. The body was later dug out and sent for a postmortem.

Notably, during evening of January 24, the girl had gone to neighbour’s house to watch TV. When she did not return home till late in the night, family members and neighbour searched for her at every possible place. Yet they did not find the girl.

In the morning on January 25, villagers informed the minor girl’s family members after finding her naked body some meters away from her house. The family members brought the body and buried it in the backyard.

However, the Bhuban police got a tip-off and informed the Dhenkanal SP about the incident. An on-the-spot investigation was conducted by the Dhenkanal SP and Kamakhyanagar SDPO after getting the information.
