Odia kids shine at Commonwealth Chess Championship

New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: Odia chess star Padmini Rout won gold in open category while promising Saina Salonika bagged silver in the women’s section at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi. Besides, Odia lad Mahitosh Dey won a bronze medal in the championship.

Padmini Rout bagged the gold after defeating N. Lokesh of Tamil Nadu to finish with seven points from nine games. Saina got 6.5 points and bagged the medal by defeating Bristy Mukherjee in the final in the Under-12 girl’s category.

Fifth seed Dey came up third in the U-10 open event with five wins, one draw and two defeats with 5.5 points.
