Bhubaneswar: Eminent singer Bhubaneswari Mishra today passed away at her residence in New Delhi following a cardiac arrest. She was 67 and is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Family members expressed shock at her untimely death saying she was completely fit and fine, but breathed her last all of a sudden.
A pall of gloom descended on the Odia music and film industries after the death of an outstanding singer.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the sudden demise of Mishra describing her as a "very talented artist."
"It is a great loss in the field of music and culture," Patnaik said.
The accredited classical singer began her career with the song 'Tiki Mora Naa Ti' for the mythological movie 'Krushna Sudama' way back in the 1970s.
Winner of many coveted awards, she had been bestowed with Odisha State Film Award for best playback singer (female) for two consecutive terms in 1979 and 1980 for the movies 'Srikrushna Rasalila' and 'Jay Ma Mangala' respectively.
Her famous film songs include 'Tume mora prabhu' in 'Sagar ', 'Jahna Ra Sindura Gaara' in Belabhumi, 'Dayamayee Mahamayee Maa Mangala' in Maa Mangala and 'Itikili Mitikili' in Sakhi Gopinath.
