Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday launched a new housing scheme for rural people of the state renaming ‘Mo Kudia Yojana’ as ‘Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana’.

Announcing this, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “The new scheme ‘Biju Pucca Ghar’ is being launched with the objective of converting all the kutcha houses in rural areas into pucca houses as per our commitment in the election manifesto.”

“The existing ‘Mo Kudia’ scheme is subsumed into the new scheme. The annual budget of the scheme would be substantially enhanced from the present allocation of Rs 330cr to Rs 3000cr in a phased manner,” added Patnaik.

Official sources said the houses under the scheme will be sanctioned in the name of the women of the household.

Besides, the state government is also planning to strengthen manpower in GP and Block level to effectively implement the initiative, an official said.

Odisha government had earlier announced 'Mo Kudia' scheme to cover the poor and needy people denied housing facility under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY).
