Bhubaneswar: Mortal remains of two BSF jawans, who lost their lives in a landmine explosion during combing operation in Kaliajhula forest of Koraput district, were consigned to flames at their hometowns with full-state honour.

The bodies of BSF Constable Shibasis Panda and Deputy Commandant Sunil Behera were brought to the BSF camp in Khurda where Sports Minister Sudam Marandi and DGP KB Singh among others paid their last respects. A guard of honour was also paid to the martyrs at the BSF camp.

Marandi told media persons, “Not only Odisha, the whole country is thinking about the jawans who are fighting to keep the integrity of India intact.”

Later special vehicles carried the mortal remains of the Panda and Behera to Maitri Vihar in Chauliaganj of Cuttack and Satya Nagar for cremation.

Meanwhile, IG Operations Soumendra Priyadarshi rushed to the spot where the landmine explosion occurred and took stock of the situation. Besides, he discussed with BSF officials, South-western range DIG and other police officials.

After the meeting, Priyadarshi said, “Our anti-Maoist operations will be intensified in coming days despite this sad incident.”
