Rayagada: Hours before the Republic Day celebrations, Maoists created violence at Dalianuji village under Muniguda police station in the district by torching a tractor and a JCB machine engaged in road construction work late last night.

The ultras left some red-posters which appealed to the people to observe the Republic Day as a black day. The rebels have warned against continuation of road work in the area.

“Adivasis will not benefit by the road. Stop the road work immediately,” the posters read.

Muniguda police reached the spot in the morning and recovered the Maoist posters from the crime spot. Police investigation has been initiated and combing operation has been launched in the area.

In a separate incident, Maoist posters and banners were sighted near Niyamagiri hills in Kalyansinghpur block in the district. The Naxals boycotted the Republic day celebrations. Besides, they also protested collector's visit to the Niyamgiri area.
