Koraput in Odisha gets Dist Award for Effective Initiatives

Koraput: The Union ministry of rural development (MoRD) has selected Odisha's Koraput, along with eight other districts, for its 'District Award for Effective Initiatives under MGNREGA'.

The national award for outstanding implementation of the central job scheme for 2012-13 will be presented by MoRD at New Delhi on February 2, which is also celebrated as MGNREGA Diwas.

"A team from MoRD recently visited 12 blocks of Koraput to inspect implementation of MGNREGA schemes. Based on its recommendations, Koraput was selected under the category, 'Leadership in Challenging Circumstances'," said Collector Sachin Jadhav, adding the Maoist-hit district's difficult terrain made it necessary for a comprehensive strategy to balance MGNREGA schemes and the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006.

"By converging MGNREGA with FRA, we were able to develop the land of 2,500 beneficiaries who had received them under FRA. The recipients were provided with jobs instantly and they supplemented their income by growing vegetables on their land. We provided a long-term livelihood option to the beneficiaries," said the collector.

Magma Q3 net falls 3.2 per cent Consolidated net profit of asset financing company Magma Fincorp slightly decreased by 3.2 per cent at Rs 35.24 crore during the third quarter of current financial year as compared to Rs 36.42 crore in the previous corresponding period.

Gross revenue of the company during the quarter increased 20 per cent at Rs 535.6 crore as compared to the previous corresponding period, Magma said in a statement.
