Paralakhemundi: Gurandi police on Friday rescued a minor girl kidnapped from Machhamara village of Gajapati district from near Palasa railway station in Andhra Pradesh and arrested the youth who abducted her.

Reports said the minor girl was kidnapped by Prakash Kumar Deb of the same village on February 4.

“The mother of the minor girl had lodged a complaint with the Gurandi police station on February 9 alleging that Prakash had kidnapped her daughter. Acting on the complaint, police had registered a case and started investigation. In course of investigation, Andhra Pradesh police on Friday informed Gurandi police that the minor girl had been found near Palasa railway station. Following information, a team of police, led by Gurandi IIC, Jitendra Kumar Nayak rushed to Palasa and rescued the girl. After getting detailed information from the girl, police arrested Prakash,” Paralakhemundi SDPO Utkal Ranjan Das told OTV today.

After being brought here last night, the minor girl and the youth were to the district headquarters hospital for medical examination.

“We are waiting for the medical examination report on the basis of which we would take appropriate action,” the SDPO said, adding that the police would forward the accused to the court this afternoon.
