Jessy arrested for abetting actor Raja’s suicide, sent to judicial custody for 15 days

Balasore: In a stunning turn to the death case of television actor Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja, Soro police on Tuesday arrested actress Pralipta Priyadarshini Samal alias Jessy.

Jessy has been sent to judicial custody for 15 days after her bail plea was rejected by the SDJM court.

“She (Jessy) has been arrested under Section 306 of IPC for abetting the actor’s death,” Balasore SP Niti Sekhar announced here this afternoon.

“During investigation, we found evidence that instigating Raja leading the actor to take the extreme step. The actor committed suicide due to instigation or abetment. When we verified the background under what circumstances the incident happened, we found Jessy had taunted him in the vehicle they were travelling in on the fateful night," Sekhar added.

Asked about the other two suspects in the case - driver Dhaneswar and event coordinator Pralay - the SP said no evidence of their role emerged during the interrogation.

Sekhar said the police may subject Jessy to a lie detector test, if required.

Earlier in the day, the Soro police deferred polygraph test of Jessy, Pralay and Dhaneswar till tomorrow, following a technical snag.

Police sources said, the lie detection test could not be conducted as the system developed a technical glitch.
