Jagatsinghpur: Allegations of substandard construction of seawalls in Jagatsinghpur district to provide safeguard against natural calamities like cyclone and tsunami have come to fore.
Notably, the state government is investing crores of rupees to build seawalls at the harbors located in the coastal area of Jagatsinghpur district.
To prevent the strong tides of the sea from barging in during the disaster, the seawall is being made with an expenditure of Rs 48 cr. However, according to sources the quality of the construction is not up to the mark.
As per sources, two contractors have been assigned for the construction of the seawall under Water resource department. But the contractors are accused of not working properly and illegally using sand and and soil the forest. Moreover these contractors are using substandard stones in the construction.
Meanwhile, the executive engineer of the Water Resources department claimed that a proper supervision is being made regarding the matter.
Notably, the construction work was supposed to be over by the end of July.
