Balasore/Bhubaneswar: The annual herbivore animal census began in Odisha from today and will continue till February 11.

According to reports, the annual census is going on at Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary, Nilgiri and Soro in Balasore district. As many as 142 forest officials, divided into 27 units, are engaged in the counting.

Elephants are barred from the census, reports added.

Notably, forest officials had completed the annual tiger census earlier this month.

Animals have been grouped under two categories - carnivores and herbivores- as is usually done in the annual exercise.
