Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to introduce city bus services in six urban areas of the state.

A decision to this effect was taken at the Empowered Committee on Infrastructure (ECI) meeting presided over by chief secretary AP Padhi at the State Secretariat here.

As decided in the meeting, the urban areas where the town bus services would be introduced in Borigumma and Sunabeda towns in Koraput district and Choudwar, Athgarh and Banki in Cuttack district.

Apart from this, the meeting also discussed about slum area development in Bhubaneswar, waste disposal management, solar street lighting, four-laning of Sambalpur-Rourkela National Highway, ongoing construction of a heart hospital at Jharsuguda and water testing lab to check the quality of drinking water.

The chief secretary asked the concerned departments to sort out the bottlenecks to ensure timely completion of the work of these aforesaid projects.

Besides, the meeting also decided to expedite the implementation of roof-top solar power project in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The meeting revealed that the state government has approved the tender of Azure Power India Pvt Ltd for the said project which will be set up and managed under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPT) mode.

The chief secretary asked the educational institutions to give approval for installation of roof-top solar power units in their respective institutions for which they will have to invest anything on this.

The Rs 40-crore project aims to generate more than 5 MW power in the twin city. The project will be completed within two years from the date of signing of the MoU.
