Puri: Expressing grave concern over the multiple cracks in the Jagmohan of Shri Jagannath temple, Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingh Deb has laid emphasis on complete repair of the structure to ensure the longevity of the centuries-old temple.

After arriving at the temple this morning, the Gajapati king and the chairperson of the Temple Managing Committee climbed up the iron ladder and observed the weak areas and cracks in the north-west column capital, all pockets and the stone beams of the Jagmohan.

Superintendent Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Jiban Kumar Patnaik and other members of Shrimandi Technical Core Committee apprised the Gajapati of the details of the ongoing repair of Jagmohan.

Expressing satisfaction on the repair work, the Gajapati king stressed complete repair of Jagmohan which is being conducted for the first time.

Talking to OTV later, the ASI Superintendending Archaeologist informed that a team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Chennai, led by Dr Menon will visit the temple on February 25 to oversee the repair work. The team will also give suggestions on new methodology to ensure that the repair work would be foolproof.

Senior temple servitor and the Nayak of Chhattisha Nijog, Janardan Pattajoshi Mohapatra said the servitors have extended all possible support to the ASI team in the ongoing repair work of Jagmohan.

“To ensure that there is no delay in the repair work, we have rescheduled the rituals of the Lord,” he said.
