Bhubaneswar: Former Khandapara MLA Siddharth Sekhar Singh today joined BJP in the presence of Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and State BJP chief Basant Panda here at party office.

The scion of Khandapara royal family in Nayagarh district had resigned from BJD on January 3

40-year old Singh was a member of the legislative assembly between 2009 and 2014. However, he was upset with the party leadership after being overlooked for a ticket during the 2014 Assembly polls.

Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik had chosen the son of former MLA Bijaylaxmi Patnaik in Singh's place whose supporters had then staged a protest in front of Patnaik’s residence.

In his letter of resignation to Naveen Patnaik, Singh had attributed it to the fact that the party was not giving him due importance.

Singh’s father Bibhuti Bhushan Singh Mardaraj is a former Deputy Speaker of Assembly as well as three-time minister in Congress governments
