D-brothers’ remand extended by 5 more days

Cuttack: The court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) today remanded gangster brothers Sushil and Sushant Dhalsamant to police custody for five more days.

The commissionerate police, which had taken the brothers duo on seven-day remand, produced them in the court after their remand period was over and sought the permission to take them on remand for 10 days to which the court allowed five-day remand.

Sources said police have got vital lead into the mysterious disappearance of Dipu Mallick, one of the henchmen and sharp shooters of the Dhalasamants’ gang, since 2013 after interrogating the duo during the seven-day remand period.

Talking to OTV, police commissioner YB Khurania said the police has got the vital lead in the murder of Dipu and hopes that it will get a clear picture during the interrogation of these two brothers in the next 2-3 days.

Stating that the police has chalked out a course of action which includes a polygraph test of the Dhalasamant brothers, the police commissioner said “We have not conducted the polygraph test which we will do during the remand period in the next five days.”

The two brothers have a long criminal and anti-social history. During the first phase remand, we have a covered a large part of it, he pointed out.

“We are carrying out cross-verification as per their statement during interrogation. Now we are going to confront them with what they have said earlier and what we have found in course of verification,” Khurania informed.

Notably, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, in a media briefing yesterday had said that the police, basing on the information extracted from the two brothers on Dipu, has planned to take the suspects involved in this case, on a fresh remand.

While the police has detained some persons suspecting their involvement with the Dhalasamant brothers, raids are on at several places to trace their other associates, he had said.

Meanwhile, from the documents seized by the police from an apartment at Vishakhapatnam, police have come to know that the Dhalasamant brothers were having business with a Vizag-based company.

Besides, the two brothers were fixing tenders on behalf of the Ramji company, to which the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has outsourced its cleaning work.

“We have identified the political leaders and CMC officials involved in the fixing. We will interrogate them very soon,” the DCP had said.

Notably, the criminal brothers were arrested from a rented house at Pokhariput area in Bhubaneswar on January 29 on charges of tender fixing and extortion.
