Bhubaneswar: With the arrest of the two dreaded criminals— Sushant Dhalasamant and his brother Sushil Dhalasamant— from Pokhariput area of the capital city on Friday night, the Odisha Police has intensified its investigation into the modus operandi of the brother duo in and outside the state.

“We have sent a number of special police squads to various places in Odisha and the neighbouring states to elicit more information on the links of these two brothers with other gangs or organisations,” Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh told OTV on Sunday.

He also informed that a special drive is underway to nab the tender and transport mafia in the state.

Terming the arrest of these two dreaded criminals a major success of the commissionerate police, Singh said the State Police has formulated new strategies to take the criminals to task.

“Earlier, we were conducting operation after a case was registered. But now we will conduct the operation to stop any criminal activity in any place of the state for which we will identity the hooligans before they commit any crime,” he added.

Asked about the places where the state police teams are conducting raids, the DGP said since this is a sensitive case, it would not be possible for him to divulge the details as it would hamper the investigation.

Notably, the two brothers were arrested by a team of Cuttack commissionerate police (DCP) from a rented house at Pokhariput area on Friday night. Police seized three revolvers, 108 rounds of bullets and Rs 10 lakh cash from their possession.

Soon after their arrest, police raided the house of these two brothers in the CDA area of Cuttack and seized cash over Rs 2.65 crore, one 9 mm carbine, a double barrel gun along with 150 live bullets, a diary, a laptop, some mobile phones and a fleet of luxury cars.

As informed by the Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, as many as 22 bank accounts belonging to the brothers have been traced so far and are being examined by the Income Tax department.
