Deogarh: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan attempted suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on Monday morning.

The jawan. identified as B.N Rao, has been admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur district in a critical condition.

“As per the FIR, CRPF ASI B.N.Rao was attempting suicide by shooting self with his AK-47 rifle at around 3.50 am and after he was taken to Burla Medical in critical condition,” said Deogarh police station IIC Ratnakar Mallick adding the investigation is on.

The reason behind the suicide attempt is yet to be ascertained, police said.
