Cuttack: The Odisha High Court on Thursday served notices to the State Election Commission (SEC) and the State government while hearing a petition filed by a poll aspirant from Ward no 21 of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
The court did not give any interim order during the hearing of the petition of Kanakalata Naik, who had appealed for election of Corportaor of Ward No 21 before the commencement of CMC Mayor poll.
The High Court posted the next hearing in the case to January 20.
In her petition, the poll aspirant Naik had made the SEC, Secretary to the SEC, Director of Municipal Administration and CMC Commissioner parties.
Informing the court that if the CMC Mayor poll is held prior to the election for Corporator of Ward no 21 which is reserved for SC woman, it would be a violation of the Municipal Corporation Act 2003, the petitioner urged the court to direct the state government for cancellation of the notification on CMC Mayor poll issued by it on January 8.
Notably, the CMC Mayor poll will be held on January 22.
