Keonjhar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced that the state government will set up a new government medical college in the district.

“Respecting the long-standing demand of the people of Keonjhar district, the state government has decided to set up a new government medical college in the district at a cost of Rs 500 crore which, I hope, will provide quality health care to the people, especially the tribals,” Patnaik said while addressing a public meeting during his one-day visit to the district.

Besides, the chief minister also announced construction of a flyover in Joda town to ease traffic congestion.

During his visit, Patnaik launched a housing scheme for the poor people of villages in mining areas of the district and handed over work orders to more than 13,500 beneficiaries. He also handed over financial assistance to the beneficiaries for construction of Pucca houses for construction workers and bonus to kendu leaf pluckers.

Apart from this, the chief minister inaugurated and laid foundation the stones worth Rs 496 crores for new projects including roads, bridges, Kalyan Mandap and students hostels during his visit.
